Derniers jours a Vancouver

Jeudi 13 octobre 2011

Back from Victoria we had coffee with Alec, energetic professional who works for the Public Knowledge Project, a project that aims to make more accessible the academic resources. To know more about it, we will try to meet the founder of this project who teaches at Stanford University near San Francisco, to be continued …

Wednesday, Mark is with us in the garden of Strathcona is one of the oldest community garden in Vancouver. Here there are no aisles, and cemented the separation of different gardens is not obvious, the set has a pleasant feeling of natural harmony. The first Sunday of each month all the gardeners gather to share and maintain public areas, benches and « genetic library » of the apple which consists of an orchard which is found over a hundred apple trees resulting from all different countries and / or times.

We’ll meet David, one of the oldest active member, for him, the birth of his children, he wanted to offer them the best, « cultivating his garden » emerged as a means to achieve it.

Friday, Scott welcomes us home. It is one of the founders of Free Geek Vancouver and we spend a good part of the morning to discuss the creation of the association, the difficulties it has encountered and the motivations behind it.

Saturday morning, thanks to the good plan of Roland, we end up at the rink to watch a training of the local team: The Canucks. An opportunity to discover the true Hockey and measure how the sport is popular around here: more than half of the arena is occupied about 9,000 people, most of which proudly wears the colors of the team.

The weekend of Thanks Giving will be punctuated by an unexpected package from France, the bearer of news and a bag of horns of the Vosges forest … scent of the country that we share with our host for a last meal together on the following Tuesday …
